Classes of the Kenduskeag
Are You Experienced?

Some people have written to me asking for a bit of clarification with
regard to the various classes of this race. So here goes.

By the way: a beginner is anyone who has not finished 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any
organized race in any class.

Recreational Class includes ANY watercraft sold for general recreational use.
This includes ABS and polyethylene canoes and kayaks, as well as aluminium,
wood, and canvas canoes.

Open Class
A general category in which anyone can compete. Typically, this is the largest
class in the Kenduskeag Stream Canoe race. Open Class is for race teams numbering more than two canoeists or for contestants entering a watercraft that is not considered a canoe or a kayak. This class is also for contestants who wish to propel their watercraft with something other than a paddle (ie., oars or a setting pole). This class also includes war canoes.
